[...Aaaand the explosion of emotions doesn't come out like she thought it would. Instead her grin just gets bigger as she rocks back, hugging her knees. ...Is that a real blush on her face? Yang never blushes.]
Well...I guess the short version is...I think I'm in love with him.
[She should be exhaling in relief, but instead her shoulders just rise a little higher along with the excitement and warmth in her chest. Yang is a happy camper.]
[ Nevermind. Mercury got there first. Sort of. Weiss promised she wouldn't mention Mercury's outburst about liking her though. Uhhhggggg. Not being able to share is the worst?? ]
That's [ admittedly fast by Weiss's standards but Weiss has only said that to two people and it's way less likely to throw herself into relationships (which there's nothing wrong with but Weiss isn't sure how to approach that without it sounding judgy) ]
Really exciting, but I would hold off on using the word love specifically at this point with him largely because I don't think he's emotionally figured out what that even is yet. Here's surprisingly easily embarrassed.
[ Look she can't tell Yang what he was embarrassed about but she can tell her he was. ]
Yeah, I know. Sometimes it paid off to take risks with him, sometimes it didn't. Definitely hard to tell the difference!
[But she's still really excited!]
It's kinda sweet, though. I know he's nervous about it, but he's really trying. So I'm doing my best to match his pace.
[Her smiles turns crooked as she rubs the back of her neck, then lightly drags her hand to her shoulder.]
It's...foreign territory for me, too. I haven't felt like this for anybody before. ...Well, this version of me hasn't, I guess. Did you have to put up with this from the other me's too, bothering you in the middle of the night to discuss all the intimate details of our love lives?
It's the first time I've felt like I've been normal with anyone from our team in a while. [ therapy had helped a lot with that. She knew that wasn't really their fault entirely. ]
Before now everything people from our world engaged me about Mercury over was "Weiss, why??" too, so you're breaking all kinds of barriers.
[Now she definitely feels bad about their previous arguments. She'll just have to do better.]
...I'm glad you told me to talk to him. I said I trusted you more than I distrusted him. That hasn't changed.
[She shakes her head.]
Thanks. For sticking with me. And him, too. You're probably the one who let him feel like he actually could choose a different path than the one his dad and Cinder put him on.
...You know what? Since you're all tucked in and relaxed, I'm going to tell you a bedtime story that I think you're going to like. It's called 'Gardener Weiss and the Tomato Plant.'
I'm tucked in because I somehow ended up a succubus and I think Sun may be trying to nap on the couch so I leave him alone for a while, and my tail keeps flipping my skirt up since I don't actually have clothing made for tails and Sun's jeans are way too big for me to borrow. Also his tail is shaped differently so I think I'd get stuck in his little tail hole anyway.
[ She looks a little embarrassed right now. ]
Also this story is already incredible fiction, I have no idea how to garden.
[She winks, waiting patiently for Weiss to finish venting. More like a suckstobeherubus, ha! Aren't you glad she didn't make that joke out loud?]
Once upon a time, there was a tomato plant. Every summer when it came time to bear fruit, this plant would always yield foul-tasting tomatoes. They were mealy, bitter, and unpleasant. Every time the plant continued to bear bad fruit, the plant would be cut down. But each year, it grew back, and continued to produce bad tomatoes.
Then one year, Gardener Weiss came into possession of the garden. She took a closer look at this plant and noticed that this plant wasn't getting as much sun, fertilizer, and water as the other plants. It had also been planted in poor quality ground that was full of rocks and bad soil. She decided to dig up the plant and place it in the center of the garden where it could easily be reached by sunlight. She weeded it, watered it, and gave it all the right conditions to see how it would grow.
It turned out that her hard work paid off, because when summer came around, it no longer yielded such bad fruit. The tomatoes were small, but they had a rich flavor and a pleasant color. When Gardener Weiss presented the fruit of this tomato plant to her friends, many were skeptical. All they'd ever known was the bad fruit, and they weren't eager to taste something that had always made them sick before. Some rejected the fruit.
Others, like Dirty Biker Gang Member Yang, were skeptical at first, but trusted Gardener Weiss because she'd sold good fruit from other plants in the past, and she didn't think the gardener would intentionally try to hurt her with fruit that would make her sick if she hadn't tried the fruit herself.
"Wow! This is the most delicious tomato I've ever tasted! It's hard to believe it came from the same plant!" said Dirty Biker Gang Member Yang.
"It's not that hard to believe at all," Gardener Weiss replied. "All it needed was the right opportunity to grow on its own. And don't talk with your mouth full."
And that was how Gardener Weiss managed to prove that it's not always the plant that's bad -- sometimes it's just that the plant doesn't have the right environment to make good fruit. Instead of cutting it down, she gave it the best chance it could have, so people like her uncouth friend could come along later and savor the fruit for themselves.
[ She listens to the story. It's a nice story, and she gets the point. She knows exactly what the meaning is and everything. Not just because it's thinly veiled, but because Mercury had asked her himself why she gave him a second chance. Why she knew someone who had killed before could become a better person, why she wasn't just ready to dismiss someone because they did bad things or hurt people if they wanted to try. It's something she picked up through her time here, through various people. Zuko, namely. David Haller had helped her come to understand that criminals weren't just people to be locked away or disposed of too, they needed treatment. They needed help- they weren't just born that way and ways to apply what she had learned from Zuko- that sometimes people just needed someone to show them a better way, and that they might screw up along the path (a lot sometimes) but if they really wanted it, they'd find a way to get back to the light. She liked Yang's story.
But it's also Yang, so she's definitely going to tease her about it. ]
I'm telling Mercury you made up a story about me pimping him out to you as a tomato.
Oh thank god, I can stop keeping that a secret then.
[ She looks visibly relieved. SHE CLEARLY ALREADY KNEW MERCURY LIKED HER. ] He blurted it out to me and then told me I wasn't allowed to tell. I told you he gets embarrassed.
Which I guess makes the tomato part more plausible.
...Oh! I guess I just kind of assumed that the whole 'I'm in love' thing came with the confessions. Whoops!
[Oh well, she kind of wanted to gab about that part anyway.]
We were talking about the time he came over and cleaned the house, and I was trying to figure out the best way to describe how easy it was to be around him, because he's fun, and sharp, and reliable...so he says I felt that way because I liked him. I asked how he knew, and he said it was because he wouldn't like someone who didn't like him back.
[Her shoulders are hitching up as that happy sunshine starts flooding her again.]
So I said I liked him a lot, he said he liked me too, and...that's pretty much that! I've been dying to tell someone. Figured you should be the first!
You're absolutely right I should be first, I'm practically your couples counselor at this point. He told me he liked you four days ago when he was trying to figure out why you were flipping out about your hair.
[ SHE'S EARNED THIS!! SHE'S WORKED VERY HARD ON THIS RELATIONSHIP. ]
...ohhhhhhh...so thaaaaaat's why it bothered him so much...
[She has at least the good grace to look a little embarrassed about that. How long has he liked her, then, if that was only when he decided to let Weiss in on the secret?]
And you didn't say anything about my bounty hunt in Attleton, right? Because when I came back out he was right there at the gate. Almost gave me a heart attack.
No, I just told him not to do the kindergarten crush thing and then we ended up talking about weird eyes since you and Klein both have weird color-changing situations and apparently Ruby's are top secret groundbreaking news that he has to tell me about later. -Do you know what's up with Ruby's eyes?
I doubt it. He said he'd tell me about how big of a "Really Big Deal" it is, with capital letters R, B, and D. I don't think a shake down is necessary. I'm mostly just waiting until I'm not an actual sex monster to go ask because that is the last thing anyone wants.
That's odd. I've been moving around to a lot of different places and didn't notice anything that would have caused Halloween Armageddon. Hope it's just a fluke.
Do you want me to swing by and fix some pants for you tomorrow? I'm not a qualified seamstress, but I know the basics of mending and making minor alterations. Widening a hole for your tail shouldn't be a problem.
I don't want to ruin any of my dresses. Sun works in Fayren, I'm sure he can swing by Vale and pick me something up.
[ Making Sun run errands for her just seems like the default, just like she doesn't have to ask him who is going to buy groceries or do laundry because she always does those things. ]
[ She has no idea how well Yang and yoga will mesh but it's worth a shot. She's been hanging around Nora and Jaune and Dorian so much it'll be nice to hang out doing something normal.
... And before that she just worked too much to really have a social life so it's a work in progress rebuilding normal. ]

I know Ozpin commented on it when they first met, but nothing beyond that.
Do we need to shake Mercury down?

[She's heard of it. Never tried it. Seems like a good chance to remedy that since she definitely wouldn't go to a class on her own.]
Is that the meditation thing, or the stuff you do that makes you all limber and flexible?
