Character Information
Name: Weiss Schnee
Series: RWBY
Appearance: Short dress (concept art to show full outfit), in-series gif
Age: 18 (17 at start of series and though no birthdays have officially passed, three volumes and a time skip of 6-8 months on its own. It’s possible she’s 19 but I err on the side of caution and assume 18.)
Canon Point: End of volume 4
Canon History: Wiki
Personality: Weiss is the self-proclaimed smartest student in her class and her behavior reflects it from 5" binders to showing forethought and caution when everyone else just wants to jump into the fray, such as when she brings along special ammo for her teammates (Dust cartridge for Blake in volume two's train fight) or her desire to observe the opposing teams before the start of the Vytal Festival. Weiss has the ambition to improve herself no matter what and appears to have a desire to achieve perfection. Weiss’s second theme song expresses that she was expected to live by her father’s law and do everything perfectly, which is taken to the extreme in volume 4 when we realize that he’s so controlling that he physically grabs her arm when she turns away to get water at a party. She's the first one to raise her hand and answer questions in class to excelling in combat, singing, organization/planning, and more. Her excitement about the Vytal Festival and how much planning goes into it shows that she has a real interest in the managerial side of events, reflected in her participation planning the dance.

Weiss was, until volume 4,the heiress to Schnee Dust Company despite being the younger of two sisters, which plays a large part in who she is. She can be a spoiled brat, even reluctantly agreeing that she tended to get everything that she wanted when she was growing up, though she takes significant strides in overcoming this as the series goes on. This attitude reflected in her actions a lot, including the occasional arrogance; assuming Ruby wouldn't be a good leader, a "my way or the highway" attitude, and a strong pride that's frequently challenged by the other characters-- about herself and the SDC. Despite this pride and needing nudges to cooperate at times and a negative attitude when she’s not in a perfect mood, she's far from stubborn and has continued to adapt as she learns more about the world beyond her father's rhetoric.

She's got a strong ability to recognize her weaknesses and improve. If there's something fixable, whether in battle or in behavior, Weiss will do it. This is most noticeable after she accepts Ruby as team leader once she's scolded by Port for thinking she should have been, then deciding to become the "best teammate" possible. Later, we see that she’s actually made progress on this, even changing her fighting style to support her team beyond just herself. She continues to improve throughout the series, developing a more playful side that allows her to actively do silly friendship things. It can still take her a while to get going when she feels discouraged, as she did initially with her summoning and she almost gave in to her father’s attempts to regain her attentions by financially cutting her off. With the support of her friends and sister, she was able to overcome these. She quickly learns from her mistakes regarding Faunus discrimination after learning that Blake's a Faunus and her initial impression brought about by the White Fang and her father's treatment of her because of them was incorrect and takes steps to both accept Faunus and eventually fights side by side and uses one of her inherited semblance abilities explicitly to protect Velvet. However, she still shows jumps to judgment in other situations such as how she judged Ruby and Jaune (negatively) and Neptune (crush) immediately. She corrects these eventually, adding Ruby as a friend, finally recognizing Jaune as not being the worst, and getting over Neptune.

Though she'd rather err on the side of caution, sometimes her know-it-all nature can make things blindside her, such as FNKI's fighting style during the tournament (she expected them to be strict and militaristic since they were from Atlas) or even when she shows she is the jumpiest member of Team RWBY, whether it be running into Penny or a loud noise (usually her teammates). Weiss was the first to call for retreat from the pack of Ursa and also suggested they avoid fighting the Nevermore and Deathstalker if they could complete their mission without doing so. Avoiding the fights that she can doesn't mean she's a coward; she was risk-assessing. When it came down to the battle or saving Ruby, she showed no hesitation. Strategic retreat isn’t the only strategy Weiss has been shown to favor, her emphasis on strategy in fights more than punchy-smash-smash plays into her speed, reflexes, flexibility, agility, and versatility as individual fighting talents whilst her support style covers the rest. Weiss is willing to sacrifice herself to ensure the team’s victory even if it isn’t "proper" form.

In more serious situations, being thrown off completely can leave her feeling less than confident in her own decision making as time goes on, such as during the Fall of Vale's start when she was more than brave enough to act but seemed to yield almost entirely to Blake’s decisions when it came to what they should do. Once she got into the swing of the fight she began to act independently. It goes to show that all the pride in the world doesn’t mean her confidence doesn’t falter when she’s in unfamiliar situations as long as she has friendly support. It’s quite a contrast from her attempts to take charge when she first arrived at Beacon, though it’s likely that that was only because she didn’t know she had people she could rely on and was able to, for the first time ever, make her own choices without her father’s input.

Weiss is also a girl who loves doing her nails (despite her initial snide remarks about it, she’s seen doing them at lunch in the background of a Team JNPR conversation), wearing (combat) skirts, and grew up wanting a bunk bed- a reflection of her positive relationship with her sister, who she is shown to adore. Her theme songs alludes to and outright states that she was lonely pre-series, even intentionally isolating herself, and a recently released track during a trailer for volume 5 (a flashback to pre-series) includes lyrics "Enemies surround me but the worst of it is friends / Liars and pretenders, only means to meet their ends." Winter and her butler, Klein, were likely the only people she was able to trust when she left Atlas the first time and before she escaped and left Atlas a second time, she outright stated to Klein they were the only family she had left.

Multiple characters have referred to friends that they had before arriving at Beacon, but not Weiss. She admits to not being able to take any show of affection seriously due to numerous boys trying to get close to her because of her family, rather than who she is as a person. The environment she grew up in as a child, being unable to trust her brother Whitley, her father forcibly using her as a tool to meet his needs, her mother an implied drunk (the only reference to her is that she’s drinking in the garden shortly after breakfast), and no one she could trust besides Winter and Klein explains her difficulty getting along with others at first, her lack of understanding regarding basic games most people have played, and her tendency toward gossip (shown when she tells JNPR about Blake's faunus status). Once she begins to get along with the other girls better, a playful attitude starts showing. She teases Ruby in a friendly way now, as opposed to taunting. Weiss jokes about Penny being "far more coordinated" than Ruby when Ruby asks if that's how she was when they first met, Penny having said something similar to Weiss's remarks about Ruby. This is in the same scene that she low-fives Ruby over the two of them agreeing on fighting in skirts despite judgment from Blake.

Despite that her personality evolved quite a bit from outright bitchy to a princessy team-player, Weiss is not a "tsundere" type (despite some fanartists' insistence). When Weiss is attracted to someone, it’s obvious. She doesn’t get embarrassed or mad with them, she doesn’t hide her feelings, and she even accepts dumb nicknames (like Neptune calling her “Snow Angel” despite that she’d judged the hell out of Jaune for the same name). Weiss is not the type of person to hide her feelings about much of anything unless her family is involved. Weiss is forward, often makes acts cutely and will make the first move even if it means rejection. On the other hand, Weiss doesn’t have a problem telling boys no when she isn't interested, earning her the nickname “Ice Queen” for some of the more firm rejections. Weiss can handle herself, she does, and if she doesn’t feel like she’s being treated with respect she has no problem going right to screaming “break his stupid face" to an opposing team in a fight.

That said, her behavior around her Father is drastically different than how she acts away from the rest of the world. She’s more obedient, more withdrawn, and she carefully phrases everything, displaying “perfect” behavior- at least up until the point that she’s pushed too far. The trauma of the Fall of Beacon and her time at Beacon Academy made it impossible for her to stand idly by and chit-chat about unimportant things when she could be making a difference, and outright yelled at someone in the middle of a party for insulting the victims. Weiss has clearly fallen out of touch with the socialite class and after her father disinherits her and hits her for a comment she made, she stands on her own two feet as Weiss and not as a Schnee.

Pride is probably one of Weiss's main personality flaws. Initially, she refuses to admit flaws because of her pride in her family’s name, which can make her come off as stuck-up and ignorant. She very well knows what her father has done with the SDC. She refuses to admit it early on, causing friction with Blake. Her eventual admission that her father is wrong is in a conversation about her reasons for coming to Beacon and she still attempts to phrase it as a “moral gray area” rather than admitting he enslaves Faunus and does horrible things, including his treatment of her as a child and bankrupting Flynt's father's business. Her sense of justice is future-focused and she can be forgiving (accepting Blake was former White Fang since she wasn't any longer) but her own family's continual wrongs are no exception. This is why Weiss tasks herself with restoring her family’s honor despite what her father did to it and righting the wrongs he inflicted upon Remnant. This is her driving motivation for becoming a huntress initially, though eventually it changes to knowing that if she can make a difference, that’s what she’s going to do even if her father’s taken away her inheritance.

“I'm not siding with anyone. I'm doing what I feel is right, and that does not include wasting my time up here with these clueless people in Atlas. The Schnee family legacy isn't yours to leave. It's mine, and I'll do it as a Huntress.”

She has no intention of living an easy life just because she can, and is willing to give up every part of that life to do so (and does). That’s who she is despite her father's attempts to destroy that. Weiss is a noble, bright young girl with ambition enough to fight and intelligence enough to learn how to do it the right way and understand others as she does.

Abilities:
Aura: In the world of Remnant, all creatures with a soul have an Aura. Aura is an extension of a person’s soul and when activated and properly honed, it acts as a shield, a weapon, and healing. It protects the user “like a force field" in the brilliant words of Jaune Arc. Realistically, it's an explanation for how characters can take so much damage without being fatally injured and functions like an HP bar. It's visible as an actual HP bar if one of the scrolls provided by Beacon are used. Aura can also heal wounds rapidly, making scars a very unlikely event as it would take wearing down a person’s Aura completely to cause them to be unable to heal from the damage. Aura is also what generates semblances, such as Weiss's glyphs, and can be used with weapons as a conduit for actual attacks. At one point, Weiss projects her aura into a swordfish during a food fight and uses it as an actual sword, showing that actual weapons are not the only things that can be used with Aura-- though they are certainly more effective. Aura can also react with Dust to create a multitude of effects and to control the Dust more effectively than just causing elemental explosions.

Dust: One of Weiss’s primary fighting methods is her use of Dust, far more advanced than most individuals due to her position as the heiress for the primary Dust-producing company in their world. Dust is effectively energy, starting in the four base elements of fire, ice, lightning, and wind. By combining those types of Dust, more types of Dust can be created and can be utilized for everything from an energy source to weaponry. The more mastery a person displays over Dust, the more creative and effective its use, and Weiss does it splendidly. However, since Weiss will not be capable of having a steady source of Dust in LifeAftr, her use of this in the game will be limited to what is in her arrival inventory. It should be noted that there are different states of dust (crystal, powdered, ammo, woven into clothing, infused with the body, etc.) and Weiss utilizes the powdered form. The powdered form is very versatile, which is why she’s able to manipulate it more effectively than say throwing and shooting a crystal for an immediate explosion. Creating half-pipes to provide speed to Yang during a fight, creating a giant fist grabbing opponents and rolling them out of battle like an Indiana Jones boulder, creating a barrier to reduce impact and protect her teammates who were on top of a train that crashed into a thick wall, and much more precise/aimed attacks are just some of the ways Weiss has utilized Dust outside of the standard usage seen by other characters.

Semblance/Glyphs: All of those who have a basic understanding and ability to use Aura exhibit a Semblance, or an ability unique to their soul that no other person has. It should be noted that for an as-of-yet unexplained reason, the Schnee family shares the same semblance despite it being linked to the soul rather than genetics. Weiss’s (and Winter’s) semblance is her glyphs. Glyphs are basically magic symbols that allow Weiss to perform various feats to enhance her fighting and defensive capabilities. Glyphs shown in-series as of volume 4 include:
+Air Step- A glyph she can use to reorient herself mid-air. Can be used to soften landings or change her direction when blown back by an attack or during a jump. (First seen as her landing strategy in the Emerald Forest. Used multiple times since.) She utilizes these platforms in a significant number of attacks, many times in conjunction with gravity-affecting glyphs to increase the power of her strikes. One particularly notable “combo-attack” she does with this is what I like to call “glyph pinball” (not an official name), which is used in her fight against the White Fang Lieutenant after a speed enhancement as well as in the fight against Flynt Coal and in the volume 5 character short. Weiss creates a dome of multiple miniature glyphs around the enemy, bouncing from one to the other and striking the enemy with each passing. The attack seemingly continues until the opponent is able to interrupt her quick succession. (Please feel free to imagine the bing-bing of a pinball machine.)

+Shield- Glyph that can be used to block attacks. Used against the Boarbatusk in Professor Port's class. It may just be a variation of the Air Step platforms but used to stop an enemy instead of as a platform for herself.

+Gravity Manipulation (NOTE: Vertical climbing nerfed)- On multiple occasions, Weiss uses a black glyph to essentially pull the subject to it with increased force. She uses it to hold Ruby like a sling against a wire set up by Blake and Yang until Weiss could aim Ruby at the Nevermore as well as during the ABRN vs RWBY fight when she used it to increase the strength of a two-footed kick into Bolin Hori. Though Weiss is not a physically strong character, the use of the gravity manipulating glyph allowed her to provide a kick that sent him flying in Ruby’s defense. Weiss also used this glyph during her battle with Flynt Coal in order to solidify herself to the ground while he was blasting her with sound waves from his trumpet to prevent herself from blowing back. Unfortunately, it was then used against her as he stopped and she flew face-first toward him because of the gravitational difference. Though a different color, Weiss has also used a glyph that allowed for vertical climbing up the sides of buildings and cliffs. She’s utilized this multiple times, including helping Ruby to climb up and finish off the Giant Nevermore in the Emerald Forest and to attempt to save Pyrrha from Cinder at the Fall of Beacon.

+Rejection/Repulsion/Launching- This glyph allows Weiss to launch something into the air. She uses this in the White Trailer to throw her enemy up into the air and when fighting the Giant Nevermore to launch Ruby toward it in conjunction with the slingshot formed by Blake and Yang’s use of Gambol Shroud.

+Push and Pull- Weiss has a glyph that she essentially can use to propel herself toward or from an enemy in a rapid movement. She uses it to perform a move that looks like she’s gliding toward an enemy across the ground at a rapid pace, but it’s also seen being used to pull teammates out of harm’s way (such as when she yanked Blake back out of reach of Torchwick’s attack during the highway fight).

+Time Dilation (NOTE: NERFED)- The known use of this in-series is a glyph with a clock-themed appearance, different than the design most of her glyphs utilize. Weiss uses this glyph both on Blake during the highway fight and on herself during her fight against the White Fang Lieutenant and both times it significantly increases the speed of the person it is used on. Weiss later references one of her glyph abilities as “time dilation” in a conversation with Winter, though this is the only witnessed use.

+Finishing Move from the White Trailer- At the end of the White Trailer, Weiss uses a glyph to perform something of a final attack. She first restrains the enemy by firing energy to five points using glyph magic to essentially "chain" and suspend the knight creature the wrists, ankles, and head. Weiss then launches herself up into the air and forward, slicing it through with Myrtenaster as it glows with glyph symbols across the pistol and blade, turning all of the dust in the chamber white as well. This shatters the enemy. She probably won’t use this ability in-game just sheerly due to the fact that it was only seen this one time and never explained, but I wanted to include it anyway to be thorough.

+Summoning (NOTE: NERFED)- Weiss has the ability to summon an enemy that she’s killed to her side to fight for her. This is a difficult-to-control ability and is heavily influenced by emotions. Weiss managed to do it accidentally the first time she used it, summoning a portion of the knight from the White Trailer to protect Velvet from a virus-infected Atlesian Paladin at the Battle of Beacon. Since then, she’s summoned in the middle of a very public breakdown at the afterparty of one of her concerts and nearly killed an innocent bystander with a Boarbatusk, stopped only by interference from General Ironwood. Because it was created emotionally, she was unable to control it. Since then, Weiss has practiced and managed to control summoning the full Knight to her side before fleeing Atlas. Because it’s stated that Winter and Weiss’s semblance is the same, we also know that multiple summons can be created at a time with mastery. Weiss’s initial training to become a huntress before she arrived at Beacon was against Winter’s summoned creatures according to the volume 5 character short for Weiss. All of their summons take on a bright white and blue color scheme, almost ghost-like in appearance.
Weiss triggers her glyphs with hand movements, which means that she does need to have at least one hand free in order to use them. It should also be noted that because she uses her semblance more than almost any other character in the series, she also has significantly lower stamina than most other characters. While other characters are still standing tall in a fight, she might have her hands on her knees trying to catch a breath. She’s also been taken out in fights more than any other member of team RWBY because of her stamina issues and lack of physical strength in comparison.

Swordplay/Fencing: Weiss’s abilities with a sword are precise, quick, and decisive. She’s incredibly adept with Myrtenaster and uses it mostly as a regular sword in battle, the only exceptions being her use of Dust. Unlike most other weapons in the series, her use of Dust is a largely elemental event rather than simply as ammo for a gun, despite her weapon’s design partially being modeled after a revolver. Her sword style is based on European fencing, though occasionally she accents her fighting with ballet-esque flourishes.

Versatility: Weiss is shown to be incredibly flexible with great reflexes. She performs flips, bends, and a multitude of high jumps that would normally only be capable of a gymnast with superpowers. She can jump off of a highway and land on her feet to perform an attack in the middle of traffic as well as dodge a chainsaw by flipping backward so that it just barely misses her stomach while she moves. And? She does it all in heels and a “combat skirt.”

Organization/Planning: Weiss comments once that Ruby stole her binder in reference to a 5” binder that was previously labeled “Vytal Festival Activities / Property of Weiss Schnee” complete with color-coded post-it tabs. Given that it was all Weiss’s work with Ruby having simply renamed it, it’s very clear that Weiss is incredibly detail-oriented when it comes to planning things out and keeping them organized. Her school work also is likely meticulous in the same way, explaining her exceptional position in the class as self-proclaimed smartest girl in the class.

Singing: Weiss is a talented singer/songwriter. Multiple songs are considered canon within the series and it’s stated by other characters that she has a wonderful voice while she’s at Beacon (mentioned by Jaune Arc in volume 2, joked about her not singing for a while to Yang in volume 3 implying she sings for them from time to time). In the White Trailer and volume 4, we see a fractions of some of her concerts- the theater is full. There are currently five songs officially attributed to Weiss’s singing within the series (Mirror Mirror, Mirror Mirror Part II, It’s My Turn, This Life is Mine, and the as of yet unnamed song from the Weiss Character Short for volume 5).

Inventory:
-1 vol. 4 outfit (the blue dress with a tulle petticoat, a bolero with a large sapphire accent, sapphire earrings, her little crown hairpiece, and strappy high heels)
-1 Myrtenaster, her Multi-Action Dust Rapier
-1 Suitcase, opened by water so she lost any macguffins that she might’ve had that we haven’t learned about as of the end of volume 4. I’m going to assume she has to search the beach for everything else because of this.
-Scroll (It’s basically a tablet and it’ll be completely and uselessly broken. She’ll discard it upon realizing that.)
-Dust (powdered form, in sealed vials):
Weiss has changed what types of Dust she uses in Myrtenaster on a number of occasions, and has 6 different vials in her chamber at any given time. Her most used dust is light blue (ice), though she has been shown to use a number of others on various occasions. I would like to request the following Dust for her:
    -1 vial of Yellow (Lightning)
    -1 vial of Blue (Water)
    -1 vials of Red (Fire)
-3 vials of Light Blue (Ice)
    -1 vial of Brown (Stone/Earth)*
-1 vial of White (Wind) (note that this was formerly green dust, but as of volume 3 in the FNKI vs RWBY fight it was changed to white)

*Weiss normally has purple Dust in Myrtenaster. Though it is speculated that it is gravity given that the use of gravity in the RWBY Chibi (non-canon comedy sketch side series) the color was never seen during the episode and is only speculated because there were some purple highlights in the mostly-black visual effect, its color has never been officially confirmed to be a specific element. It is for this reason that I would like to assume that Weiss's purple dust vial was lost at sea upon arrival. If it is eventually confirmed that purple=gravity, I would happily allow someone spear fishing to accidentally set off a maelstrom by hitting an underwater vial instead of a fish. Since she did bring a suitcase with her and has been known to bring multiple types of Dust with her in the show (even packing ammo for others like Blake sometimes), I hope it's OK that I have her bring Earth dust with. Though she hadn't used it herself in the series yet, she has been seen with it and has provided others with it.

All Dust that's listed she has more than one of were ones she had in her sword and back-ups in her suitcase. As she was running away from home, I am assuming a couple of basics were in there plus Dust as she is one of the primary Dust users in the series.

What’s more important: the way others see you, or the way you see yourself?
[ What a difficult question, one that's bothered her to her core for a long time. It takes her some time to consider, her gaze lowering for a moment. ]

Those two concepts aren't separate for me; if I want to change how others see me I have to have confidence in myself and who I want to be. [ A long-learned lesson, one she didn't always believe she could do. but things were different now. ] I've let other people determine who I am for far too long. If I want to determine who other people think I am, the way I see myself has to come first.

Describe your greatest achievement.
I was number one in our classes at Beacon academically. [ She likes to brag about it. A while ago, she would've had any number of answers to this question. Her entire school being destroyed, being taken away from her friends while her entire team was in the hospital, and ending up back where she started is a humbling experience. There's a reason it took her months to try to stand on her own two feet again. ] But considering [ A brief, punctuated pause as she how to obscure her experiences best. Strangers don't get to know her family's dealings. ] everything that's happened since Beacon fell, I have a long way to go before I consider any of my accomplishments significant. I've only just taken control of my life, the next step is finding a way to make a difference before I declare anything a great achievement.

What kind of impression do you think you give to others?
That's a loaded question. Most people have an impression of me before they've even met me because of my family's name. I don't typically get the luxury of a first impression so much as having to put effort into unbuilding whatever a person believes about my family, for better or worse. [ She tilts her head in thought, eyes turning up in her head as she recalls the rare occasion that someone didn't know who she was to begin with. ] I know I can come off as.. difficult, though I like to think I've improved substantially.

Do you consider yourself to be special in any way? If so, how?
Of course I am. I have the capability to fight, to make a difference. I want to. I may not be unique in that nature, but there are many who don't. I have a responsibility to make a difference in this world because of it, and I have every intention of being the huntress I set out to be to fulfill that. I used to believe it was being a Schnee that made me special, but I'm the one who has to make that name mean something special [ her volume lowers slightly and she speaks through her teeth just slightly, quickly adding: ] whether certain individuals want me to or not.

What kind of person do you find worthy of respect?
[ Finally, an easy question she doesn't have to obfuscate parts of her answer for. ] Obviously, someone who's always willing to learn and improve not only their skills, but who they are as a person. You don't earn respect by being stronger or older, but by your actions that got you there.

What’s your opinion on your family?
[ And then the one she has to obfuscate most on. That was incredibly complicated, and while she was free from her father, she still didn't think her family's inner workings were anyone's business but their own. Which is pretty funny considering her music, in which she's much more open about it- though those are more about her feelings and until recently she'd never specified who the "you" making her feel that way was.

But the last words she spoke to Klein echoed in her mind and a soft, sad smile pulled to her lips as her voice took on a warm yet strained tone. ]

My family is who I choose it to be. Winter and Klein are always going to be there for me.

[ Weiss supposes that speaks volumes about Jacques and Whitley, even her mother, but it's the truth. She left for a reason. ]

Do you think things like art, music, and literature are important? Why or why not?
Those are some of the most important things in any culture and not just because they provide physical insights into historical periods, but because of what they are to the individual.

[ You might want to sit down for this one. Weiss is about to lay down some tl;dr like the know-it-all she is. ]

Mantle once believed that if its peoples' emotions could be controlled, they would be safer from the Creatures of Grimm, so they outlawed all of these- art, literature, music, self-expression, individuality of any kind. They forced this on Mistral, and eventually attempted to force it upon the Kingdom of Vale as well. While there were a number of other factors involved, this started the largest war in recorded history. It's one of the reasons why so many people in Remnant's current generations are named after colors. Colors are one of the most fundamental concepts in art and will always stand as a reminder not to fall victim to that type of conformity and oppression ever again.

[ History lesson aside, Weiss's tone gets a lot less like she's reading sections she probably memorized from classroom literature, and takes on a slightly more personal tone. ]

I know this, because literature allowed me to see my first glimpses into a world outside of what I was brought up in. Music gave me the only outlet I had to hold onto who I wanted to be. It gave me a voice when I looked in the mirror and didn't recognize my own reflection. [ It very probably saved her from giving up on herself before she was able to get away from her father. ] Music, all arts and literature, are irreplaceable.
